Bank On Arizona Hosting Inaugural “Get Banked Day” at Tempe EnVision Center on January 31st, Connecting Community Members to Safe, Affordable Banking and Essential Resources

Bank On Arizona will host Get Banked Day on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Tempe EnVision Center, located at 1310 E. Apache Blvd., Tempe, AZ 85281. This free community event is designed to connect individuals with safe, affordable banking options and wraparound services that support long-term financial stability.

Get Banked Day brings together Bank On-certified financial institutions and trusted community partners in one location to help individuals explore checking account options that meet national Bank On standards. These accounts feature low fees, no overdraft charges, and easy access to essential banking tools.

Participating financial institutions include:

  • Academy Bank
  • Bank of America
  • BOK Financial
  • BMO
  • Chase
  • PNC Bank
  • UMB
  • US Bank
  • Wells Fargo

In addition to on-site banking support, attendees will have access to information from other City of Tempe and community-based organizations, including:

  • Tempe Community Council (TCC) will share information about their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which provides free tax preparation services for those who qualify. TCC will also offer $25 Fry’s gift cards to the first 50 attendees who sign up for a bank account at the event, made possible through a generous grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation.
  • Tempe Community Action Agency, offering financial wellness resources
  • Institute for Digital Inclusion Acceleration (IDIA), offering computer access, tech support and opportunities to try out 3D printers, virtual reality and more
  • Arizona Center for Youth Resources (ACYR), providing GED and ESOL classes
  • City of Tempe Kid Zone before and after school program

Together, these services help ensure attendees can access not only financial tools, but also education and financial wellness resources that strengthen overall household stability.

“Get Banked Day is about meeting people where they are and making financial access easier, safer, and more welcoming,” said Jessica Howell, Director of Community Engagement and Programming for Dress for Success Arizona, the host organization for Bank On Arizona. “By bringing trusted financial institutions together with workforce, education, and sustainability partners, we are creating a one-stop opportunity for community members to access the resources they need to move forward with confidence.”

Tim Burch, Tempe’s Community Health and Human Services Director, emphasized the importance of collaboration in serving the community:

“We are excited to bring more financial wellness resources to the community as host of Get Banked Day at our Tempe EnVision Center,” Burch said. “By partnering with Bank On Arizona, we can connect our residents to experts who can assist with their individual needs. This event provides another opportunity for the city to help residents access resources that can improve their quality of life.”

The Tempe EnVision Center serves as a hub for coordinated services, connecting residents to programs that support economic mobility, education, sustainability, digital access and improved quality of life. Get Banked Day reflects this mission by offering practical, actionable resources in a single, accessible location.

The event is free and open to the public. Community members interested in attending are encouraged to register in advance.

About Bank On Arizona

Bank On Arizona works to provide access to safe and appropriate financial products and services for underserved communities across Arizona.

A basic banking account is an important first step in participating in the financial mainstream, depositing your paycheck safely, paying bills effectively, accessing or building credit, and saving for emergencies and the future. However, one key challenge facing people without accounts has been a lack of safe and appropriate banking products offered by mainstream financial institutions, particularly those without overdraft. Instead, nearly 50 million adults across the nation rely on costly alternative financial services – like cash checkers, payday lenders, and pawn shops – for routine financial transactions.

Participating banks and credit unions across Arizona offer low-cost, low-fee transaction accounts that are certified as meeting the Bank On National Account Standards.

Bank On Arizona, a program of Dress for Success Arizona, changes the lives of low-income women and families across Arizona by pioneering pathways from poverty to opportunity and from financial insecurity to capability and success.
